Keighley and Craven CAMRA Pub Of The Year 2009
The Old White Bear, Cross Hills
The Old White Bear in Crosshills has been presented with the prestigeous 'Pub of the Year, 2009' award by members of Keighley & Craven CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale). The long, low whitewashed building, constructed in 1735, has, at various times been a hotel, brothel, council meeting chamber and dance hall, and is one of the oldest buildings in the village. A fine example of a popular, well-run community pub, it was formerly the home of Naylor's Brewery until demand outstripped the space available and the brewery had to move to larger premises a short distance away about two years ago. However, the pub still sells Naylor's beers at very competitive prices and in excellent condition and its lunchtime and evening meals are very popular. It is also one of only three remaining pubs in Craven to retain the traditional 'Ring the Bull' game. Congratulations are due to the management and staff on winning the award.
The award was presented by Collen Holiday, Branch Chair in the packed bar on 13th May 2009.
