Most improved pub 2001 - The Old Hall, Haworth
Although the Old Hall in Haworth dates from 1621, it is the change in the last eleven months that has resulted in the award by Keighley & Craven CAMRA of the most improved pub for 2001/2. Jennings took control on 29th November 2000 and brought in Sarah Dunn as manager. Jennings beers on offer are their Bitter, Cumberland Ale, Cocker Hoop and Sneck Lifter with seasonal offerings of Fell Runner (Spring), Crag Rat (Summer), Cross Buttock (Autumn) and La'al Cockle Warmer (Winter). For those afraid to experiment there is also Tetley Bitter. The Old Hall is a warm and welcoming former manor house with mullioned windows, stone arches and low ceilings. The real ales are supplemented by a range quality meals and snacks, on offer all day (12-9) on Sunday with lunch (12-2.30) and evening meals (5.30-9) during the rest of the week. If you wish to stay longer, overnight accommodation is available.
The Old Hall has four areas, with two containing large inglenook fireplaces. The Tudor room offers a no-smoking area, whilst the bar area is wood panelled with a stone flagged floor and offers wheelchair access with a dedicated WC. The beer garden is popular in summer and two car parks offer ample parking. Haworth Old Hall is easily accessible by bus and train (K&WVLR); it is open on Sunday 12-10.30 and 11-11 the rest of the week. The presentation of the award will take place on Tuesday 11th December about 8.30 pm, when CAMRA members and locals will congratulate Sarah on her outstanding success as the most improved pub in a branch area covering close on 400 square miles.
