The Eldon Country Hotel, Long Preston, only has Wharfedale Folly Ale on occasionally. The other pump has a Copper Dragon beer on. This was Challenger IPA on 2.12.06.
The beer range at both Black Bull and Bay Horse, Sutton, continues to be 2 beers at each. Jennings Cumbeland and Tetley Bitter at the former and Taylor’s Golden Best and Tetley Bitter at the latter.
The cruck barn at the back of the Craven Arms, Appletreewick, has now been finished. Robert Aynesworth, son of Wharfedale Brewery boss David, was responsible for the construction and held his wedding reception there last Saturday.
Bad news from just outside our area. The Flying Horseshoe closed as a pub about 3 years ago and the owners have since then tried to obtain planning permission to convert it into flats. This has now been approved by Craven District Council and work to convert it into 8 apartments will start.

Brewery News
Naylor’s Brewery have now relocated to Midland Mills, Cross Hills. Robert has recently completed the 3rd brew at the new premises. New beers named after local characters continue to appear. Also a new stout brewed with vanilla pods.
Copper Dragon have now secured premises for a new brewery in Skipton to replace the existing brewery in 12 months time. The new brewery will initially have a 90bbl brew length and 600bbl fermentation capacity; the equipment has been ordered. Meanwhile, the existing site is brewing 40bbl twice a day Monday to Friday at present.

At the end of October Copper Dragon Golden Pippin was on sale at the Gamekeepers Inn, on Long Ashes Caravan Park, Threshfield. This was alongside Black Sheep Bitter & Emmerdale.
At the same time the Black Horse, Grassington, had on sale Tetley Bitter, Black Sheep Bitter & Emmerdale and Wells’ Bombardier.
Also in Grassington the Grassington House Hotel had Tetley Bitter and Black Sheep Bitter.
Again, in the same village, the Devonshire Hotel had Phoenix White Monk, Moorhouses’ Blond Witch & Pendle Witches Brew and Tetley Bitter.
The Narrow Boat, Skipton, has now acquired the building next door and a new room is now in place downstairs. There is also a function room upstairs which can be hired.
Nick Hindle is the new tenant at the Fleece, Haworth.
Richard and Jean Day are leaving the Cross Keys, Skipton, after being there 11 years. Former member of staff Caroline Wooler will take over.
The new bar has been built at the Livery Rooms, Keighley, and the pub reopened after a few days’ closure on Friday 3rd November.
A life member of CAMRA, Helen Knapman, is set to become licensee at the Druids Arms, Thwaites Brow, when completion has gone through. Apparently there are 4 handpumps on the bar, though what is being sold at present is unsure (has anyone been in recently?). It will be Helen’s first pub (see also hard copy of e-mail being circulated at this meeting).
The White Lion, Cray, was selling Wensleydale Bitter (3.7%) last weekend. This shares a pump with Wensleydale Semer Water, according to Debbie Roe, licensee.
The changeover of licensees at the Commercial, Skipton, originally planned for 2nd October, has been delayed by a minor legal problem. Paul and Julie Mills are still in situ, but there has been a small change in the beer range over the past three weeks or so. Theakston's Mild has replaced the Tetley Dark Mild.
Nosh restaurant, Devonshire Place, Skipton, is selling Wharfedale Folly Ale on handpump.
Both the Royal Oak and Escape bar in Skipton are for sale.

Brewery News
Copper Dragon are now exporting their bottled beers to Russia. A new 120 barrel plant is due to open by Easter 2007 on a 2 acre site in Skipton.

Licensees Brian and Pauline Parker have been sacked from the Black Horse, Hellifield. However, they claim to have been unfairly treated by the pub owners Pubs 2B Inn. Residents have started a petition to keep Mr. & Mrs. Parker which attracted hundreds of names in a very short time.
The New Inn, Clapham, is on the market for £1.6m. Licensees Keith and Barbara Mannion have been at the pub for 19 years and want to retire.
The Tempest Arms, Elslack, has been forced, by Craven District Council, to change the appearance of their bedroom extension.
Moorhouses’ Premier and Taylor’s Landlord are regulars at the Maypole, Long Preston, with 2 other guest beers.
The Buck, Malham, appears to round up the price of half pints to the nearest 10p.
The Old White Bear, Cross Hills, is on the market. Apparently a large rent increase has meant that the Naylor family will leave the pub to concentrate on the brewing venture shortly to transfer to Midland Mills.
The Bridge, Keighley, is transferring from management to leasehold.
The Market Arms, Keighley, is another town centre pub to have been boarded up.
The Lord Rodney, Keighley, currently boarded up, has been bought by Timothy Taylors. They plan a major refurbishment “… to restore it to its former glory.” It was a Punch Taverns pub.
Chrome/C.J.s, on Low Mill Lane, Keighley, also appears to be closed.
Both Bay Horse and Black Bull, Sutton, had only 2 cask beers on in mid-September.
Following the next national Wetherspoons’ beer festival (from 20th to 31st October) the Livery Rooms, Keighley, will close for a few days whilst a new bar is built.
The Bay Horse, Sutton, now has 4 handpumps of which 2 are in use. Beers on 3/10/06 were Tetley Bitter and Taylor’s Golden Best.
The Black Bull, Sutton, has 2 beers available on its 6 handpumps. On 3/10/06 the range was Tetley Bitter and Jennings Cumberland Ale. Incongruously, the advert displayed in the the Gents states “5 cask-conditioned ales always available”. The former non-smoking area is now festooned with ash trays.
Though not in this branch area the licensee of the Saddle Inn, Blackpool, is hoping to get Copper Dragon beers in on a semi-regular basis.
The New Inn, Appletreewick, has replaced Theakston BB with Black Sheep Bitter (alongside Daleside Bitter & Blonde, John Smith’s Cask and Theakston Old Peculier). The pub is still on the market after John Pitchers turned down an offer from Enterprise Inns. He was due to show round representatives from the Tadcaster Pub Group (formerly Commer Inns) on 2.10.06.
When visited on 1.10.06 the Craven Arms, Appletreewick, was selling Folly Mild in addition to Folly Ale, Folly Gold, Executioner, Taylor’s Golden Best, Litton Potts Beck and Tetley Bitter. A new room has been opened up at the back, leading on to the new barn which is nearing completion.
The Angel at Hetton is now totally non-smoking.

The Crossroads Inn, Crossroads, reopened on 15th September. It stocks all 5 Copper Dragon beers, viz. Black Gold, Best Bitter, Golden Pippin, Scott’s 1816 and Challenger IPA.
The Old Station at Giggleswick has now reopened.
What was named the Long Ashes Inn is now the Gamekeepers Inn, at the Long Ashes Caravan Park. On sale in August were Black Sheep Bitter & Emmerdale and Saltaire Fuggles.
The Royal Shepherd, Skipton, changed its range in the Summer to Copper Dragon Best Bitter, Scott’s 1816, Golden Pippin and Black Gold.
The Royal Oak, also in Skipton, was selling Black Sheep Bitter and one Copper Dragon beer in mid-Summer.
The Rendevous Hotel, Snaygill, was selling Copper Dragon Golden Pippin & Scott’s 1816, in mid-Summer.
The Talbot Hotel, Settle, withdrew Tetley Bitter in the Summer and put on Copper Dragon Best Bitter instead. This then complemented the Copper Dragon Golden Pippin.
New licensees at Embsay’s Elm Tree are Karen Hodgson and Mark Lawrence.
A occasional beer at the Victoria, Kirkby Malham, is ‘Granny Boo’s Best Bitter’ (A.B.V. 4.4%) which is a 50/50 blend of Wharfedale Folly Ale & Folly Gold.
In June the Clarendon at Hebden was selling Taylor’s Best Bitter, Tetley Bitter, Black Sheep Bitter & Emmerdale.
Steeton Hall has a new management team in Craig and Kamila Simcoe. Head chef Craig has worked at the Angel, Hetton, the Cavendish Pavilion at Bolton Abbey, and both Henri’s and the Waterside restaurants in Skipton. In mid-August John Smith’s Cask and Black Sheep Emmerdale were on sale.

Chris Marsden, the new licensee of The Cross Roads Inn said at the September branch meeting that it now seems the pub will re-open on Friday 15th. It seems the work has taken longer than anticipated!

The licensee of the Cross Roads Inn hopes to reopen on September 8th - he says it is a Building site at present. Also he is running a bus from the pub on the Thursday of the Beer Festival for some of the locals.

The Crossroads Inn, Crossroads, near Keighley; is now is a Copper Dragon Pub. It is currently closed for some refurbishment, and is due to re-open on 4th August.

The Old Station, Giggleswick - Opening date 25th August 2006. There will be an opening "do" on Saturday 27th August.

The New Inn, Appletreewick, is on the market.
The Old Station in Giggleswick is a managed Punch Taverns pub.
There has been a facelift at the bar in the Blue Bell, Kettlewell, and the pub has been completely redecorated. There is seating for up to 200. Food is on sale from 12 to 2 P.M. and 6 to 9 P.M. but should soon be on sale all day.
The Elm Tree at Embsay is up for sale.
The Flappitt, which is at the junction of the A629 and the B6144 between Cross Roads and Cullingworth, is being advertised. Punch Taverns are looking for a new operator. A £450,000 refurbishment is promised for the successful new licensee.
The Royal Oak, Skipton, has transformed its cellar into an early 19th century coaching inn, thanks to innovative landlord Danny Sanderson. Tours of the cellar take place between 11 A.M. and 12.30 P.M. and between 2 P.M. and 3.30 P.M. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and at the weekend. Admission is £4 for adults, £3 for children, including a drink. On Tuesdays and Thursdays the cellar bar is open for drinks between noon and 5 P.M. It is also available for small private functions.

The new licensee at the Blue Bell, Kettlewell, is ‘Chalky’ White, who ran the Buck in Buckden several years ago. The pub has been acquired by Copper Dragon Brewery.
The Crossroads Inn is threatened with demolition to make way for a food supermarket. Members are urged to sign the petition in the pub objecting to this.

The Willow Tree, Riddlesden, changed hands in late March. New licensee Stuart used to run the Great Northern in Ingrow and intends to maintain a guest beer on the bar.
The Marquis of Granby in Riddlesden has replaced Webster’s Green Label with Theakston’s Mild.
Haworth’s Black Bull usually has 2 changing guest beers on alongside the Caledonian Deuchar’s IPA.
Skipton Folk Club are moving to the Royal Oak, Skipton, around late April.
The Woolly Sheep, Skipton, changed hands in March with the departure of Trudy to Ripon’s Royal Oak. John Newsham from Bingley’s Ferrands Arms has taken over.
The Brown Cow, Keighley, went entirely non-smoking on 1st March.
Copper Dragon Brewery have acquired the Blue Bell in Kettlewell and were due to reopen it on 7th April.
The Maypole, Long Preston, continues to ring the changes with its guest beer. Featuring over the last weeks have been Everard’s Tiger, Brakspear’s Special, Ringwood Bitter, Wharfedale Folly Ale, Copper Dragon Best Bitter and Naylor’s Mother’s Best. Bowland Oak and Dent Aviator are expected in the near future.
In January Bob and Nancy Williamson retired from the Fleece, Skipton, after 34 years at the pub. New licensees are Heather and Mick Howes, who have previously been customers there.
The Black Bull, Sutton, has a new licensee in Marc Williamson. There are up to 5 real ales on, including Tetley Bitter as a permanent. Marc is intending to run a beer festival at the pub from 25th to 29th May.
In February the Bay Horse in Sutton had Taylor’s Golden Best, Theakston’s Mild, Tetley Bitter and Greene King IPA.
The Turkey, Goose Eye, is holding its annual beer festival from 27th April to 1st May, with 25+ beers expected.
The Cricketers, Keighley is also holding its beer festival at a similar time, from 27th to 30th April, with 30+ beers on.
The Eldon Country Hotel, Church Street, Long Preston, now has a full on-licence. There are normally 2 beers on, one of which is a changing Copper Dragon beer.
Hellifield’s Black Horse had Copper Dragon Best Bitter & Golden Pippin plus Black Sheep Ale in February.
The Albert Hotel, Keighley, is now managed by Gary Cahalin who has many years experience with Tetleys and Thwaites.
The White Lion, Cray, went completely non-smoking around the turn of the year.
The Talbot, Settle, reintroduced real ale late last year. The pub had Tetley Bitter and Copper Dragon Golden Pippin on sale in mid-December.
The Mason’s Arms, Eastby, replaced Webster’s Yorkshire Bitter with John Smith’s Cask during the Winter. Other beers are Wells Bombardier and Copper Dragon Golden Pippin.
The White Bear, Eastburn, has changed its name to the Eastburn Inn.
The Craven Arms, Appletreewick, has been restored to a 2-bar pub again. A very good job of restoration has been done. At the turn of the year the pub was selling Wharfedale Holly Folly, Folly Ale & Executioner, Tetley Bitter & Mild, Taylor’s Golden Best & Landlord.
The Old Hall, Threshfield, underwent a change of management in the Winter, the new team being led by Hayley Walters. In late January the range was Theakston’s Best Bitter & Black Bull, Taylor’s Landlord and a guest.
The Lord Rodney, Church Green, Keighley, has been boarded up for several weeks.
The Bridge, Silsden, changed hands early this year.

The Quarry House Inn, near Keighley, ceased trading on Thursday 23rd March. The details are unclear at the moment, but we will bring more news as we get it. The pub had changed hands in November. The pub was being run on a short-term lease by Chameleon Pub Company, who also run the Old Hall, Haworth.
